This Privacy Policy explains how the LocalGuide mobile application (“LocalGuide”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information. LocalGuide is an offline-first AI assistant that runs a language model directly on your device. LocalGuide is operated by NeighborhoodSafe (“we”, “us”), which you can reach at privacy@neighborhoodsafe.org.

Summary: LocalGuide does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your conversations are processed entirely on your device and never sent to us or any third party.

LocalGuide is offline-first. The app connects to the internet only to download the AI model file(s) the first time they are needed. These downloads occur over a secure, encrypted HTTPS connection. The download request reveals only what any file download reveals (such as your IP address) to whoever hosts the model file — Google Play (via Play Asset Delivery) when you install from Google Play, or a public host such as Hugging Face or GitHub for manual downloads. It does not include any of your prompts or personal content. After the model is downloaded, LocalGuide functions fully offline. No prompts, responses, or personal content are ever uploaded.

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your data to any third party, because we do not collect it. No data is shared for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.

LocalGuide is intended for users aged 13 and older; because AI responses can be inaccurate or unsuitable, the app is not designed for unsupervised use by young children.

Because your data never leaves your device, you remain in full control of it. You can permanently delete all app data at any time through your device’s app settings (“Clear data”) or by uninstalling LocalGuide. Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights regarding personal data; since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our end.

The app is free, open-source software provided “as is” under the MIT License, without warranties of any kind. You are responsible for how you use its output and agree not to use the app for any unlawful purpose. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for decisions made based on the AI’s responses.
